Taree PCYC is centrally located, and offers a wide range of services and activities, for the community. Taree is the business centre of the Manning Valley providing first class shopping centre's, entertainment and sporting facilities, alfresco dining and peaceful riverside parks. Situated just three and a half hours from Sydney Taree has much to offer and is a large attractive town, situated on the magnificent Manning River, Australia's only river Delta system (one of two in the world) featuring two river entrances, at Harrington and Old Bar. The name Taree is Aboriginal in origin. Derived from 'Tareebin' meaning 'the fruit of the fig tree which grew in profusion'. (Oceania, vol.XXXIV, no.4, p.288; June 1964). Also: Said to come from 'tarrebit' meaning 'fruit of the wild fig' (Appleton; 1992) Also: 'wild fig fruit'. (McCarthy; 1963). Taree PCYC acknowledges the traditional custodians of country throughout the Manning Valley, the Biripi people, and acknowledges their continuing connection to land, culture and community.
Our MissionWe get young people active in life. We reduce and prevent crime by and against young people.
Our Mission Statement reflects the three core elements of PCYC's work: our significant sports, arts and recreation activities focused on young people; the values approach we seek to bring to the individual lives of young people involved in our leadership program and Police programs; and the unique partnership we have with NSW Police in its work with young offenders and 'at risk' young people. This partnership is at the heart of PCYC between the organisation, community members and the NSW Police. |
