PCYC participates annually in the national Rock Eisteddfod Challenge, the largest  and most successful youth-culture event in Australia.

In recent years, a number of clubs have shown increasing interest.  Our most successful club, Sutherland, gained entry to the Premier division in 2005.

Underpinning the Rock Eisteddfod Challenge are key beliefs in health, life-skills and creativity, in a drug-free environment.

In 2006 over 400 schools and 40,000 students competed in 50 Rock Challenge shows in 17 regions across Australia.

Teams as small as 10 or as large as 140 students create an eight minute performance around a theme of their choice, set to music.

In 2007, PCYC has entries from:

PCYC Sutherland (at Endeavour High School)

PCYC Maitland

PCYC Port Macquarie

PCYC Penrith

PCYC Blacktown

BACKGROUND

In 1980 the "Rock ‘n’ Roll Eisteddfod" was born as a NSW Arts Council sponsored event, featuring a handful of Sydney high schools at the Hordern Pavilion. It was an idea developed by Sydney radio station 2SM – then Sydney's number-one rock radio station.

In 1988, the NSW Health department was the first to see the Rock Eisteddfod as an opportunity of delivering their “Quit For Life” anti-smoking message to secondary school students in New South Wales.
