U13's 2008 PCYC Parramatta Eagles
No sooner had the trials been completed for the U13s that the boys were straight into 3 night's week pre season training. Trial Games were played in Nov & Dec with encouraging results. Under the guidance of our coaching staff, Marlon & Todd the team settled into a routine with an aim to be ready for the start of 2008 season. After a few weeks break at Christmas, the team started pre-season training along with further trials. We participated in the 4 week Fraser Park tournament. The boys were now eager to start and round 1 couldn't come fast enough. The season started with mixed results however the team placed themselves in the Top 3 where they were to remain until round 21, however an outstanding away win in the last round soon had the team finishing third, an outstanding achievement for a team with 5 under age players.
Week 1 of the semis saw the team record a courageous victory in a dramatic penalty shootout. Week 2 resulted in a heartbreaking loss in the 2nd minute of injury time, in a game played in the pouring rain. Week 3 the team clicked and came out firing to record a 3-1 victory and a spot in the Grand Final. The Grand final was against the minor Premiers Central Coast, a team that has beat us 3 times this year. In a strong all-round team performance the team recorded a 2-1 victory in extra time to be crowned champions. A great way to complete the boys first season in youth league.

PCYC UNDER 16'S v NORTHERN TIGERS

20th September Grand Final Day 1-1 FULL TIME 1-1 EXTRA TIME 4-3 PENALTIES

On a HOT windswept afternoon the boys faced Northern Tigers nemeses from the 1st semi final where PCYC lost 1-0.

The PCYC were ready and pumped after surviving a tense penalty shoot out the previous week to reach the Grand Final.

After a tight 1st half in which the Northern Tigers had the better of play in which our defence held firmly together to deny the opposition any shooting opportunities.

In the second half the boys picked up their game and started to turn the tide of the game our way then against the run of play, Northern Tigers scored from what seemed to be a harmless cross into the box. Most teams under that pressure and in that stifling heat would have given up. However PCYC drew from their inner strengths and months of hard work to pile on the pressure on the opposition accumulating in many half changes and corners. From one such change when the ball was crossed onto the box and through an opportunist strike by Nick with his back to goal drew our teams level .This excited the crowd and spurred on the team. With 10mins to go both teams held out till extra time.

In extra time both teams had their changes to claim victory but in the end it came down to the dreaded penalty shoot out!

I was quite calm and confident that the boy's would do well as we have been practicing penalties at training for the last 2 months and with the experience of the last weeks semi final penalty shoot out win against Gladesville Spirit behind the boy's this would prove vital in the final out come.

The team prevailed during the penalty shoot out with three outstanding saves by out keeper Justin.

A great day for the club, team, families and supporters.

Bulletins

PCYC PARRAMATTA EAGLES
U12's ACADEMY TEAM 2008

It is a very special moment when the last whistle of the last game is blown and you can take a breath and reflect on the year that just passed and what has been achieved.

This year's achievements were quite remarkable.

" Under 12's GDSFA League Winners
" Under 12's GDSFA Grand Champions
" Under 12's Football NSW State Cup Winners
" Under 12's Champion of Champion Winners
" PCYC FC Parramatta Best New Team
" PCYC FC Parramatta Footballer of the Year - Richard Darko

It is very rare that thirteen young men can come together at the beginning of the year and achieve all the objectives put before them. The PCYC under 12's were truly a team of Champions who displayed a style of football that was much more advanced than their age.

Their ability to move the ball with a maturity much greater than their age resulted in a free flowing game that was appreciated by spectators all over NSW. It is even more remarkable that ten of the thirteen boys were playing a year above their required age and one of the boys played two years above.

The results were achieved did not come easy, on numerous occasions the team only won by a goal and often they had to come from behind which really identified the true character of a remarkable team.

Throughout 2008 the team played 41 games, scored 186 goals and conceded 19, only losing one trial game against a representative schools team. These achievements were a result of self discipline, hard work and practice.

The team was very fortunate to be coached by the clubs Junior Technical Director Mark Diacono who displayed a passion for the game and also a desire to unlock the potential of the team by not only showing them the art of creative football , but by also by teaching how the boys to think and create opportunities.

The 2008 season has been a remarkable experience for thirteen young men who have taken a large step in their development and to realise what can be achieved by working together and by playing together as a team.
