WHO ARE WE?

PCYC is a State wide partnership between young people, the community and the NSW Police working to assist young people develop the qualities to be responsible citizens and leaders and to avoid becoming offenders or victims of crime. We are a non government charity working in partnership with NSW Police and reporting to a Board of Directors.

As is the case with the other 58 PCYCs throughout NSW, Hornsby Ku-ring-gai PCYC is self-funding. Neither the PCYC nor the Police Officer activities in the Club are funded by government or the Police Department and, as a registered charity and not-for-profit organisation, we are critically reliant on self funding, sponsorship grants and community support to conduct our youth activities. Our manager and administration staff are working closely with the Club's Police Officers and our Advisory Committee of local business people and volunteers to reitalise your club and provide a diverse range of activities that attracts and services all the youth of our area. We also work very closely with other like minded organisations, especially Hornsby and Ku-ring-gai Councils.

We liaise and work cooperatively with the Council Youth Management Committees in supporting each others youth activities and meet regularly with other non-profit and charity organisations as a member of the Hornsby Ku-ring-gai Youth Network Committee to develop youth strategies, share information and ideas and coordinate our activities.

We also have a close working relationship with the Youth Liaison Officers at the Police Local Area Command.

MISSION

Our mission is to give young people every chance in life and to have PCYC NSW respected and recognized as a leading youth service organization that is dedicated to excellence in youth leadership and youth crime prevention as well as promoting active and responsible young lives.

To fulfil the PCYC mission, we are committed to providing a recreational outlet for all the Youth of Hornsby and Ku-ring-gai. PCYCs do not just focus on young offenders; we have an essential preventative role to provide recreational opportunities for all youth. Nowhere is this more the case than in the Hornsby and Ku-ring-gai municipalities that in the 2001 census recorded 86,480 young people under the age of 25 years.

HISTORY

The Hornsby Kur-ing-gai PCYC has built a proud tradition since it was first opened on 5th August 1967. While the inaugural PCYC in NSW, under the banner of the Police and Citizens Boys Club, opened its doors in 1937, Hornsby had to wait a little longer.

With the assistance of the State PCYC, self-raised funds and, most importantly, through donations from the local community, the Hornsby Club has been instrumental in encouraging and supporting young people in the district ever since.
